WEEK 13!

 December 30, 2013
 Friends  & Family,
Well skyping my family for Christmas was the best Christmas present I could have gotten! It was so amazing! I loved seeing all my family! It was so hard to say goodbye but I know that I will see them soon again!!! :) I have the best family EVER! :)) but Christmas Eve was fun! We all went over to some senior missionaries house. We played games and she gave us all a box of goodies. like puzzles, candy, hot chocolate, etc. It was so fun! Then we went home and hung out and went to bed! We woke up and opened some presents on Christmas Day! Hung out then got ready and went to a members house! We had brunch... SO much food!! Then I skyped my family. :) BEST DAY EVER!!! Then we went to another members house at 5 with the Elders and ate dinner! Then went home at like 7. FIRST CHRISTMAS AWAY FROM HOME.... I WENT TO BED AT 7:30PM hahahah I didn't think I was that tired but I laid down then fell asleep before 7:30 hahaha! Funny. But Thursdays are always long because we have to weekly planning for 3 hours! So we plan for the next week and do all this stuff.. haha it takes forever! But its good :) haha but I kind of just realized... I live in the GHETTO... haha (don't worry grandma Nilsa I am okay. But if you want you can send pepper spray.. hehe just kidding) But we met this new family!!! Norma, Manuel and two kids! We just started teaching them! And they are amazing!! We invited them to church! ( IT IS SO HARD TO GET PEOPLE TO CHURCH....) BUTTT They came! All 4 of them! It was so amazing I saw them come in and light up!! It made my day! They are so great! My Spanish is getting a lot better and I'm actually talking more and more in each lesson!! So thanks to all your prayers! :) But don't stop ! hahaha But it is crazy how much I've grown and learned since I have been on my mission.. I absolutely love being on my mission and love everything about it! Yeah I miss my friends and family and my life at home.. but this is as close as real life I am ever going to get! This is WHERE, without a doubt I am supposed to be! :) I have never been so happy! Thank you for all the Christmas pictures and cards!! And thank you for all my friends and family back home! I miss you all and love you!!! Have a safe week!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! :)

WEEK 12!

 December 23, 2013

Friends & Family,

I am so excited I can't believe Christmas is so close. It literally doesn't even seem like it is almost here! I really am missing home! My first Christmas away from home.... but I know that I will be okay! It is really an amazing time to be serving the Lord. All I really even think about is the true meaning of Christmas. Yeah we always do, but especially cause I am serving the lord I am CONSTANTLY thinking about it! It is such an amazing feeling!! The spirit is always so strong in my life! Being a missionary is by far the best decision I have ever made!! I know I always say I love my life but I never thought my life could possibly get this great!! :) So this week was SO great! We just went around sharing the Christmas message door to door! It is so amazing the experiences I go through! We had a Christmas conference on Friday, so Thursday our whole zone drove down in a bus to stay in Virginia Beach with other missionaries! Then that next day we went to a Christmas thing! We were all so confused on what it was... but we get there and President Baker said you guys all need to relax.. so we watched the Mumpit Scrudge, haha It was so fun, then we had a bunch of people from our mission to do musical numbers!! :) I felt the spirit so strong and loved every minute of it! :) We went with a member and her two cute kids! Sister Anderson! ( The one we had thanksgiving with) And we delivered cookies to the less active!! and to see their faces lighten up made me so happy inside!! :)
This week nothing really exciting happened, it was just some really cool experiences! I absolutely love the Christmas season! It makes me so happy! I'm so excited to Skype my family.... :) You all know that I loved my family before I left,  but being on a mission makes you understand how much you are BLESSED.... I thank Heavenly Father everyday for the family and friends I have! I couldn't be any happier!! Thank y'all for being the best!! :)
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!

WEEK 11!

 December 16, 2013
Beautiful sunset over the bay outside their house!

Family & Friends,

Wow how blessed am I to have a family like mine! I can't express my love towards them! Thank you for all the Christmas packages! I love it all so much! :) I will be sending home letters to you all!
So this week was alright. I'm not gonna lie. It is getting harder and harder with this language thing! I have by far taught more lessons in English then Spanish! Without a doubt. So that doesn't help me! I barely know anything! I just keep praying and praying that someday I will. So we had 1 of the 70's come and talk to all of us missionaries! It was really good! It was ALL day long from 8am -4pm and it was about an hour away! But it was so amazing! I love being around worthy and such spiritual people! Some people bore their testimonies and they were so strong! I seriously could not imagine my life anywhere else but here! I never thought this is where my life would take me! But I am in LOVE with my life! It's an amazing thing to know that Heavenly Father is ALWAYS there for you! Knowing that he loves you so much and knows you blows my mind! We had a ward Christmas social! It was so much fun! We helped set up everything! the next day... my amazing family sent three packages!!! haha It was amazing!!!! I never thought letters and packages meant anything to me! but it's nice! haha That day we went tracking in a trailer park.. it was freezing! We didn't find anyone. So frustrating! haha but I am starting to realize some reasons why I am here! Hermana Bennett said to me, " You know how you come on a mission for a reason but sometimes you don't know why or for who?" I said yeah! and she said, "You get along so well with the young women, I think you are here for them!!" I was in shock and said, wow thanks! haha in my ward here there are 15 young women and 3 come to church! I got 2 young women to come! I love these young women! I love working with them! It's amazing! Then we ate brunch at the Andersons! It was so YUMMY! Crepes and potatoes and eggs and bacon! Yummm!! :) Our lovely, golden investigator is AMAZING!!! We taught him the Word of Wisdom and at the end he looked at us and said, "It's weird because I drink ALL the time but every since you guys started teaching me, I haven't drank"!! Ahh how crazy and amazing the spirit works!! It is amazing! Hopefully he will get baptized.  It's just hard cause his wife lives in Mexico... but hopefully!! :) So Sunday I went to church and I was about to walk out and Sister McCormick runs up to me and says, "Your sister had her baby!!!" I looked at her and was confused because I didn't understand how she would know! haha then I was like WHAT?? And started crying in front of everyone!!!! hahaha I am so happy Jayden and Derek for this amazing baby boy Kedson to come into the world! I can't wait to Skype him!! I love all of you guys! I hope you have a great week!! :)

WEEK 10!

 December 9, 2013

 To Friends & Family,
So Tuesday, was like a lazy day.. we had to deep clean our house. So we took a couple hours and deep cleaned EVERYTHING. It was nasty haha but anyways this week was very slow as toward missionary work but still great! I love everyone in my ward! They are seriously so great! They LOVE their sisters... haha They are all like fighting over us! :) haha Its funny but The Shumways are from Arizona. so he always gives me updates on ASU football! haha :) Its great! Elder Hart left his camera in our car so we took about 30 funny, ugly, scary pictures. It was so funny! haha but our Elders here are great! It's sad cause transfers are next week and some of them will probably get transferred! :( but oh well! haha So Friday we had our first zone meeting! President Baker and his wife came to that! It was so great and I felt the spirit so strong. It is so crazy how I thought I felt the spirit so strong at home... It is a different kind of feeling! It is amazing! I am so grateful for this life I have. I seriously never thought I could be this happy! I miss my grandparents on both sides so much!! I really wish y'all could experience what I am experiencing! I am thankful for the people in my life! Thank you all for being there for me and my family! And thank you to the young men and young men leaders in my home ward for sending me a package and all writing me, it means a lot! :) Friday night we had a play, the forgotten carols, and a lot of people came and it was very good! Music brings the spirit so strong! Saturday was the Christmas Devotional, and it was so great!!! Russell M. Nelson is so great! Sorry my email is so short! It was a very slow week here in Elizabeth city! haha I hope y'all have a great week! Hopefully next week I'll have some awesome stories!! :)

WEEK 9!

 December 2, 2013

Wow how thankful I am for my life and all the people in it!!! This week was probably the best week.  I am surrounded by loving fun people!! So Monday I had a thing called exchange so I go with another Sister and my companion goes with another Sister for the day! So I was with Sister Snow! She is so cute and so fun! We did all English and went to visit some less active!! It was really nice to not have to worry about the Spanish for that day! :) hehe but Tuesday we went and knocked at this trailer park and this African American lady came to the door with toothpaste all over her mouth and started yelling at us and slammed the door... hahaha I walked away so scared but laughing so hard! haha The funny things you see on a mission!! haha But we found our first real investigator. Wow he is golden, his name is Adan (Adam in English) He is very humbled and very sweet and willing to hear our message! He came to church on Sunday!!! It was so Amazing!!!!! :) Hopefully he gets baptized! haha but wow Thanksgiving!1 I missed my family and friends on this day!! I stopped to think and started crying cause I miss my amazing family so much! But all the missionaries (six of us) went to Sister Andersons house. She has two very cute kids! haha but it was so fun! We went over at 10:30am and helped her cook alllll day while the Elders were working on the yard and setting up Christmas stuff! The Elders thought it would be so funny.. to pull a prank on me..... so they found a frozen crawdad (a little lobster) and put it in my shoe... so after we ate, food was amazing, we went to all take pictures outside! So I was putting my shoes on, my Sperry's.. and something was in the front of my shoe and I couldn't put my shoe on, so I go to look and I see a crawdad. Oh my gosh.... I have never been so scared in my LIFE!!!!! I screamed at the top of my lungs and jumped and threw the shoe.... EVERYONE was laughing. I started crying cause I was so scared! hahaha everyone said I jumped so high they didn't know a girl could jump that high! haha All the Elders were laughing so hard for like 10 minutes. So now I have to get them back, if anyone has an idea... LET ME KNOW! ;) haha So Thanksgiving was a blessing. We all ate, hung out, played games, and put up their Christmas tree! It was a great day!!! I am thankful for being in such a loving ward! :) I love my companion, we have SO MUCH FUN which helps a lot!!! :)  I am beyond happy and love my life!! Thank you  all for being so supporting and loving!!!
I love and miss you all.

WEEK 8!

 November 25, 2013
Hola mi familia y Amigos!!  HAPPY THANKSGIVING
So I was sick with the flu for two days.. so this email will be short haha! But Tuesday and Wednesday I was sick throwing up.. so not fun! So for two days we just sat at home! I felt bad for my companion cause she wanted to go out and find people to teach! But I needed to get better! I slept all day, I honestly don't think I have ever slept that long in MY LIFE! haha! But now I am feeling a lot better!! :) Thursdays are the longest day cause we have to do our weekly planning... for like 3 hours!!! It's horrible but great! haha I am so lucky I have such a patient, loving companion! I have been praying for her since I got my call and little do you know prayers really do work! She is exactly what I prayed for! :) SO Thursday night oh my gosh!! Probably the best, funniest moment of my life! So we got scheduled two dinners, ALL the missionaries ( so 4 elders and us 2 hermanas) So We get to the first one and we are eating and the Elders said don't worry we will eat a lot so you hermanas don't have to finish it, we were like you guys are great! So then we get to the next dinner and she had SOOOOO much food! I felt like I was going to throw up just looking at it, so I get a little and I am full so I stop and Elder Lainhert says "Hermana Brugman you said you were so hungry on the way so get some more!" I look at him and I was like, yeah I'm just waiting for other people to get some food! hahaha Gosh so funny! Then Elder Hart says to Elder Haight ( his companion) Oh I'll make you a plate just sit down, and he put 3 huge scoops of food on his plate, (Elder Haight is a twig) hahaha IT LITERALLY WAS SO FUNNY I couldn't stop laughing! haha Our Elders are the best, I love them!! haha So Friday we had our district meeting, it was great. We talked about how the Book or Mormon is important to teach to our investigators and pray! Those are two very important things as a missionary we need to do! So we drove straight from there to Nags head! That is about an hour away from Elizabeth's City! We have such a big area! :( ugh so we go stay with another set of Sisters down there! and spent the night over there! It was so fun! :) But the progress we had on Friday was horrible. We probably knocked on 15 doors and 1 person answered. It is really scary. Our mission president just made the rule that we can't be out past dark because we are going to bad areas and I am always freaking out! :( so pray for me! haha Saturday I was having a really bad day.. but came home from Nags head at 9pm and came home to two packages on my door step!! Ahh it was so exciting! Grandma Nilsa and Grandpa Roy, Thank you very much! Much love to you two and Jaycob and Ali! You are amazing! ALL the things I love in the boxes! You guys are great! thank you!! And later in the week I got another package from my Aunt Tracey.  It was also amazing. I am wearing the scarf right now!! :) I love it, all the candy and muffins and yummy choc. chip cookies and gummies. :) thanks so much you're great!!
So we only get a certain amount of miles a month on our car!  The car we got already had a lot on it! So we have 84 miles left for this month! It may sound like a lot.... but it's NOT!!!! so we are walking everywhere! I usually wouldn't mind it.. but it is freezing... I'm going to get a cold.. I literally am always freezing! but it's okay! I'll get used to it hopefully! Sundays are my favorite days!! I love them! Filled with joy and the spirit!!
Thank you everyone for all you do, you're great!!
I hope y'all have a good week! I love you much!
Hermana Brugman!!!

P.S. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

WEEK 7!

 November 18, 2013
Well so I left the CCM (MTC) at 2:30am and there was a group of about 15 of us leaving, 5 minutes before we are about to leave they said I have to ride in a car all by myself, while the rest of the missionaries ride in a bus together. I was so mad and sad and I started to cry. I was freaking out because first I was alone, and alone with 2 Mexicans that didn't speak English AND I was at the Mexico city airport. I was so nervous and scared but I just prayed and felt very calm throughout that whole time, and for you guys that know me usually I would be freaking out! haha. So I fly to Atlanta for my lay over and run to the phone to call my family! I loved every moment of that phone call and miss and love my family dearly! So after that I met up with Shalai the girl I went through the temple with in Arizona! and 10 other missionaries. They all came from the MTC in Provo so they knew each other! But we got picked up from our president and met them, then went straight a church and had a good dinner! Then had meetings with the president! Everything was great! We went to a hotel and stayed the night! Then woke up and got McDonalds for breakfast.  I  know healthy haha! But then we went to the church to see who our trainers would be! I was nervous but I got lucky and got a great trainer, Hermana Bennett, she is from IDAHO and her dad just recently died.. sad! But she is a major in Spanish.... she took it for 5 years and even leaved in Mexico for 5 months. crazy! Seriously she speaks like a native its crazy!! I hope one day I'll be there. I just feel so dumb! She eats REALLLLLY healthy like oatmeal, wheat everything, only veggies and fruits..... I'm gonna be SKINNY!! hahahah Well anyways!! My area is Elizabeth City, North Carolina! Look it up! We are right on the bay, it is super NICE!! It's beautiful. The sky and trees!! IM IN LOVE!!!! Thank you moma, daddy, family for that package!! OH my gosh! I got there and it was the best thing ever!! I cried cause it meant so much to me! Everything I needed and wanted!!! I loved the cookies from daddies cookies hahaha so yummy! I really appreciate that! It meant so much to me!! So we moved into our little house! When we walk out we see the bay! ITS AMAZING! (I'm sorry I forgot my cord to my camera so you will have to wait till next week for pictures.. :(   ) But so in our ward there are 4 elders and then us two! So they came over and helped us clean our house and from upstairs bring down a fridge washer, dryer and beds and tables! haha crazy! But these elders are great! So nice! :) but anyways! I have been asking all the missionaries what you get fed here and they said chicken!!! So I was so happy! Our first dinner appointment.... I walk in and we ate crab cake.... I literally almost threw up.. I couldn't do it! I ate half of it! and I just said I was full!! How funny the first night I eat crab!! BLAHHHH. Just my luck. hah, anyways, her name is Sister Moore and she is in our ward. She went on a mission! Her husband died when she was 25! She saw that I was cold and she said, "do you have a jacket?" I said I'm going to buy a new one! She went over to her closet and gave me the cutest most warm red jacket ever!! She was so sweet! She said please take it and you keep it!! She is so dang cute!! It fits great! and looks great! Everyone here is so nice!! So this ward has been praying for sister missionaries for 5 years now! They are in love with us!!! Every night we have a dinner appointment. They all come up and hug us! haha it's so cute!!! Some people in the ward came over and brought some food and supplies. Sister Anderson, gosh she is great she took us food shopping! :) So nice! She is having all the missionaries (8 of us) to her house for thanksgiving!! :) She has two cute kids!! I love them! They always run up to me and hug me!!! It makes me happy! :) So we have a lot of area to cover, we are in Elizabeth city! and we have investigators in Nags head.. so that is 1 hour away from us!! It's a lot of driving! All the Mexicans are all over!!! So it's really hard! My Spanish still sucks but I have faith and I need to be patient. I can do it! haha It will come! It's just so hard cause my companion speaks better than some Mexicans. hahaha, but Sunday was great! We got to meet a lot of people and they asked us to go up there a bear our testimonies. It was great! I am starting to feel like a missionary hahaha!! :) so I guess that's good :) EVERY Sunday we go over to the Pendaltons for lunch and we had tuna sandwiches and chips and soda and fruit and pumpkin pie! I am starting to really love pumpkin pie :) haha then for dinner we went to Sister Andersons house and had spaghetti, then played with her kids! :) Then we went to meet with the Bagasos, they are GREAT!!! Javier and he is from Peru. He lived in the Bronx from to 60's-80's. He told me to ask my grandparents about a shop or something and it's called Alexander? Idk he said he knows how to make Puerto Rican food so he will have me over and make it! I'm excited! haha :) They gave us hot chocolate and corn bread? Weird mix but it's okay! It was great! Then we went to a meeting with the missionaries at 8 to the Umphelts house! The ward missionary house! It was good had some ice cream and brownies! haha Talked about what we need to do! It was great! This morning we went to play at the gym in the church with our elders and played Oompa Loompa . It was great! It is a game were you play Frisbee golf but with a football.. and then you shoot it like a basketball. haha It is weird but way fun!! Anyways! I am loving it here!!! This place is amazing!!! I can't wait to send you pictures next week I am sorry I forgot my cord!! :( but You will love it! Look it up for now! I hope all of you have had a wonderful week!!! I love You guys!! :) <3

Family and Friends:

The CCM has been the best experience, but it is time to go change people's lives for the better!! I leave tomorrow at 2:30 AM! It is crazy on how fast this went!!! It is so crazy!!! I am all packed and ready to go!! It was so hard saying goodbye to all my friends and people in my district (They left yesterday). It was so hard!! We were just all crying even the elders! I can't wait to see them all again!!! I know I say this a lot but I wish you could all come here for a day to see how it really is. You would be shocked to know you are surrounded by worthy missionaries and always feeling the spirit! I feel so happy and loved every day! I really hope you all know that God, our loving Heavenly Father loves you all!! When you are having a bad day, kneel down and pray!!!! I promise, prayer is AMAZING!!! We all don't use it enough! Yeah Spanish is getting better! It's better than I thought! It is just so funny cause in school I sucked. I know more than I learned for 3 years! haha I just wish I can tell you guys the details on everything!! This is exactly where I'm supposed to be, no doubt about that!! I know that for a fact!! Oh yeah! I met a girl that just got here that is going to my mission! We met on Facebook before we left. She is great!! She always runs up and gives me a big hug!!! Its great!! Week 5!

 November 7, 2013

Dear family and Friends:

Oh my gosh!!! I leave in 5 days.  These 6 weeks have gone by so fast! I can't wait to get to Virginia and teach REAL investigators! It is amazing here! I really wish I could explain everything to you guys! I wish you could come here for a day and see what I do every day! It seriously is the most amazing place ever! I have never constantly felt the spirit like this before! I wish all of you guys could feel the peace, joy and happiness I feel! So my district is literally the best!! We have 4 elders that are such great guys, the first week I was like, I can't do this. haha they are straight out of high school and immature, but they grew on me. It is so amazing how much I've seen them change! I have so many videos of them playing with an invisible ball. hah So FUNNY!! I love them!!! OKAY Sunday was fast Sunday. Let me tell you, I thought I was gonna die. haha  So we didn't eat Saturday dinner and then didn't eat breakfast on Sunday. (like you're supposed to) but it is so crazy on how you really feel the difference when you are fasting for a full 24 hours. I bore my testimony about my dad's conversion. I sat there and cried like a baby! Daddy let me just tell you of how happy I am that you joined this church and knowing that our family is going to all be together forever!! You are such an amazing example to me! So today we went to the temple for the last time in Spanish. They just came out with the new movie in Spanish. IT WAS AMAZING!!! Gosh I love this church and this gospel. The temple is so great. If you are worthy to go in the temple and don't go once a week. try harder!! GO!!! don't make excuses. I promise it will bless you and you will find answers to your prayers!!!   I bought scripture cases from the temple. they are sooo cool! I love them! The book Jesus the Christ. is THE BEST BOOK IVE EVER READ!!! READ it!  But Tuesdays.... are the best because we actually have a good dinner... PIZZA NIGHT from Costco! haha so great!! I hope all of
you guys are having a great week!! I will get back to guys when I'm in Virginia :) Love you all!!!
